Hi, my name is Karen and I run Shikara, a friendly and welcoming soft furnishings workroom set in Poundbury, Dorchester.

My life long passion has always been for fabrics, their different weaves, textures and finishes, the use of colour and pattern, and the way these simple things can transform and enhance our living spaces.

My experience is that these things need not cost a fortune; a well thought out scheme doesn't have to be expensive.

Gaining a diploma in Professional Curtain Making and Soft Furnishings; and creating handmade, bespoke soft furnishings commissions of curtains, blinds, cushions, lampshades, and more, over many years, has confirmed my love of textiles. Reimagining treasured furnishings to give them a new lease of life, and a new personality, is a speciality of mine.

Producing all levels of furnishings, from hand-made to machine finished, my focus is always on quality and attention to detail. The smallest of design features can turn your furnishings into something truly unique; after all "the devil is in the detail!"
